8 Snacks That Won't Crack You Out

Hummus and tabbouleh on table

Don’t be suckered by food scientists who are paid to design chemicals in snack foods to be as addictive as possible, making you a paying customer for life. Be the boss of your own brain. Sometimes, all you need are some good ideas to change the game. Here’s a list. Pick some and try them on your next game day/Netflix night/workless weekend/snow day!

Popcorn

Air-popped

Spray or mist with Olive Oil

Mist on Vinegar

Or toss with Italian Seasonings

Hummus + Veggies

1 Can Chickpeas (drained)

2 Tbsp Lemon or more to taste

2 Tbsp Tahini or more to taste

2 Tbsp Olive Oil

½ tsp salt

1 clove garlic

Shake of cumin

Throw it all in a blender or food processor and blend until creamy. Add tiny bits of water if needed.

Pair with Tabbouleh (pictured) or Veggies - Carrots, Cucumbers, Red Peppers, etc. or Whole Grain Pita Bread

Nuts, Dates, Olives - Snack Board

Come up with your own healthy fancy snack board.

Here’s my favorite:

Pistachios, Dates, Strawberry Preserves, shot glass of Hummus or Guacamole, Carrots, Blueberries and Olives (It’s colorful and hits all the flavor marks for me. Also, you can stretch it out over the course of a film)

Avocado Toast

Whole Grain Bread

Avocado

Imagination

Here’s my favorite:

Raw honey, Plain Coconut Yogurt, Mashed Avocado, Cucumber Slices, Hemp Seeds + Cilantro on Seedy Bread

Apples + Peanut Butter

Level up with a little Cinnamon

Cocoa Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

I won’t tell you how much of what to put in this. It’s very personal.

Cocoa

Peanut Butter

Frozen Bananas

Vanilla

Plant Milk

Cowboy Caviar

This usually involves the following ingredients mixed in a bowl and eaten alone or with tortilla chips:

Can of Black Beans

Corn, Tomatoes, Peppers, Onions (I like Green Olives in mine)

Salt, Lime, Olive Oil (I use Smoked Chipotle Pepper and Smoked Paprika)

Tortilla Pizza

Whole Grain Tortilla

Tomato Sauce

Toppings

My version: Kalamata Olives, Grape Tomatoes, Artichoke Hearts, Spinach, Pepitas, Red Pepper Flakes, Italian Seasonings, Basil (post-oven)

I bake it at 420 degrees until it looks crispy
